Walter Pitchford shopped at his local Sutton in Ashfield Iceland store and ended up with not only his weekly shopping but £250 worth of Iceland goodies and the biggest Diamond Jubilee party in town.



Walter, aged 83, from Sutton in Ashfield has two children and was the local winner of Iceland's nationwide Jubilee competition to reward one customers from each of their stores with enough Iceland food and goodies to stage a celebration to remember on the Queen's Diamond Jubilee weekend.



He beat thousands of other hopefuls to the prize - a party pack stuffed to the brim with party food, Jubilee bunting, table cloths, crowns and loads of other Jubilee themed goodies for his own Jubilee.



Walter was very happy with the win and couldn't believe his luck. He is the Chairman of the Mansfield and District Male choir and has just celebrated 53 years with them. He donated his big win to the group so that they could all enjoy the celebrations together with one big Jubilee party. It was held at Forest Town Welfare Club where the choir were joined by their families and there was plenty of singing by the group throughout the day.



The choir is renowned in the local area and has sung at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall as part of the 1,000 voices concert. It has raised money for various charities over the years and its next fundraising event is set to make a donation to the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

Iceland has given away 726 Jubilee parties worth over £250,000, with a winner from every store. The parties took place today, around the UK, plus one lucky party winner celebrated the occasion with a life changing £25,000 in cash.
